Books
There is only one book that we know of that has been written on the topic of handhelds in medicine, and it is titled (appropriately) Handhelds in Medicine: A Practical Guide for Clinicians, edited by
Scott M Strayer, Peter L Reynolds, and Mark H Ebell, and published by Springer. Dr. Jim Thompson, a Dalhousie faculty member from PEI, contributed a chapter entitled "How to make your own database: programming a simple procedure log."
Special Reports
Dr. John LeBlanc, of the Department of Pediatrics, has written a guide entitled Informatics Resources for Pediatrics.
Wes Robertson has written a guide entitled Health Management Software for the Palm for a Health Fair in early 2004, covering consumer-focussed PalmOS software to track blood pressure, medications, exercise and weight, etc.
In 2003 we published a white paper on wireless data connectivity in Maritime Canada, which is now obsolete, but remains available on this site as a historical document.
Website PDFs
The Spring 2004 version of this website is available as a PDF file. You may find this file useful for offline viewing or printing. Just click on the link below to display it in your browser, or right-click and select "Save Target As" to download it.
Some previous previous versions of these recommendations are also available--mainly to show how fast things change in the world of handhelds!
